Abstract & Keywords PDF Print
Goat production is an example of a sustainable production fully integrated within the local rural development. One of the main threats on the outdoor breeding of goats is parasitism. For years, it has been considered that the data obtained on parasite infections in sheep can be directly transferred to goats. Several recent studies in different disciplines have underlined the existence of significant
specificities in the goat-parasite interactions.

The objective of this proposal is to form a multidisciplinary network in order to provide scientific grounds
i) to increase our knowledge on these specificities and
ii) to develop adapted strategies to control parasitism in goats in order to improve sustainable rearing.

This goal will be achieved by covering 4 scientific fields in goats:
a) epidemiology of parasitic infections;
b) immune response to endo- and ectoparasites;
c) pharmacokinetics of antiparasitic drugs and
d) alternatives to chemical drugs.

These areas will be utilised to structure 4 main Work Packages.
